How do I know if I need a filling, a crown, or a root canal?
It depends on how much healthy tooth structure remains and whether the tooth's nerve is affected. Small cavities usually need only a filling; larger areas of decay or a cracked tooth often need a crown; and if the infection has reached the nerve, a root canal comes first. Dr. Herr will confirm which applies to you with an exam and X-rays.
Is restorative dental work painful?
Most restorative procedures are done with local anesthesia and cause little to no discomfort during treatment. For patients who feel anxious about dental work, we also offer sedation dentistry and nitrous oxide.
Will my insurance cover restorative dentistry?
Many restorative procedures — including crowns, bridges, and root canals — are at least partially covered by dental insurance. Our team can help you understand your benefits before treatment begins.
How long does restorative treatment take?
Timelines vary by procedure. A same-day crown can be completed in one visit, while implants and bridges typically require a few appointments over several weeks to allow for healing and precise fitting.
